Bairgutsman 2009

Yesterday I ran the bairgutsman for the 2nd time. My goal was to beat my last year's time. That was a much harder goal than I thought it would be. I beat it my 2 1/2 minutes and about killed myself to do it! Esteban volunteered this year so as I was climbing death row (the name describes the climb perfectly) I could see Esteban and Brian at the top. It is difficult to describe the feeling when you feel like you are about to die and you see your family at the top cheering you on. It is those feelings that pull me into this racing thing. Once I made it to the top there is still a HUGE road to climb before you get to the whether balls. Esteban ran with me up that and as we were nearing the top I could hear my other brother John and Jen cheering me on and John had the song "Simply the Best" blaring out of his car for me. Wow!!! I love my family! That definitely gave me a boost. Once I got to the top I gave Esteban my fuel belt and headed down. The bad thing was that I got a side ache within about 2 minutes. I had to walk for about 10 minutes before I was able to run again. I knew for sure that my chance of beating my time was gone. But after all that walking I was able to go a pretty good pace down the mountain and I finished just barely before last year!

What? You had to climb to the weather balls? We didn't do that last year did we? Didn't we just climb up death row and then start going on that long road? Awesome that you beat your time! You ARE nuts, but in a "I really wish I could be like that" kind of way. :)

What a great support system...I can totally picture you running in slow motion as Esteban is by your side and the music is blaring in the background....like in the movies :)
You are such an inspiration! Great job!
