Ogden Half Marathon

Last Friday (day before the race) my friend asked if I wanted to run the Ogden half marathon. Her mom wasn't able to run it and just wanted the shirt so she was giving her bib number away. Well I was scheduled to run 12 Saturday anyways so even though I was nervous about the whole thing I excitedly accepted. 10 minutes later another friend offered me a number for the full marathon. For about 1 hour I planned to run that and I was sick thinking about it. It sounded so great to bang out 2 marathons in a month. After a lot of thinking I decided it would be smarted to run the half and really push it hard. I know myself and I think I would run the full faster than I should and end up not doing either marathon to my fullest potential. So Saturday morning I woke up at 3:15am, picked up a couple of friends and headed to Ogden. They bussed us up the canyon and we sat around fires for 1 hour 45 minutes before lining up. That was the worst part by far.

The gun sounded and I took off and really never held back knowing that I was doing a distance that I was very used to. There were a couple of really good down hill parts, but there was far less downhill than I expected. By mile 11 I was really getting tired and the course really leveled out the last 4 miles. I kept pushing and finished at 1:37:34. I was very happy about my time. I averaged 7:25 minute miles. I came in 22nd place out of 1600 females doing the half. What a beautiful day and course. We ran around Pine View Reservoir and the canyon was beautiful with a HUGE beautiful waterfall halfway down. We ended running through trails around the dinosaur park.

Congrats to all my friends who ran the full that day!!! (Tara, Heather, Candice, Lisa, Kathy and Jeremy) What a huge accomplishment!!!

I can't imagine running 7:25 let alone averaging that over a half marathon. Sheesh! What a fun way to get in your Saturday run! :)
